The Shopfront Youth Legal Centre is a free legal service for homeless and disadvantaged young people aged 25 and under. The Shopfront is a joint project of Mission Australia, the Salvation Army and the law firm Herbert Smith Freehills. The Shopfront is based in inner-city Sydney (356 Victoria Street, Darlinghurst) but can help people who live outside this area. Mission Australia provides the Shopfront case worker role, who works collaboratively with the legal staff at The Shopfront to provide a co-ordinated and holistic response to legal and other issues. Supports include case management, informal counselling and advocacy which is provided primarily in an outreach capacity.

Who we assist

Young people aged 25 and under with legal issues. Client group includes young people who are homeless and disadvantaged, who may be experiencing mental health issues or cognitive impairment. Legal issues may range from criminal charges, apprehended violence orders, fines, victims of crime compensation, and some civil matters such as debt issues.

Eligibility criteria

Under 25 years of age; Presenting legal issue with addition needs. Sydney Metro wide.

Referral process

Referrals can be made to The Shopfront for legal support and advice on (02) 9322 4808. Referrals to the case work team are internal via the legal team.
