Community Kinship Program formally known as Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program supports informal kinship carers who have assumed the role of primary caregivers to their grandchildren (or other related children), often in difficult family circumstances. The program helps informal kinship carers to develop their confidence and parenting skills, and helps them connect with schools, other supports in the community and assisting with referral pathway to meet the needs of the family. While the service mostly works with grandparents and relatives raising grandchildren aged 0-12, the service can include children up to 18 years of age.

Informal Kinship Carers who have taken on the primary care of a child

Referral process

Referrals will come through the Strong Families - Safe Kids Advice and Referral Service (SFSKARS) 1800 000 123. SFSKARS will assess eligibility and refer to Community Liaison Officer to allocate to Community Kinship Practitioner.
