We helped Anna find a safe home

One of the greatest gifts you gave me was the confidence to report my ex partner’s abusive behaviour. I feel like my family’s life is different in many ways.Anna, single mother of four.

On the surface, Anna* seemed carefree but behind closed doors, the mother of four was enduring an abusive and violent relationship. Between caring for her four children, all with special needs, she felt isolated and unsure about the future. 

When Anna finally mustered up the courage to reach out to us for help, she confided in her case worker and together, they discussed ways to help Anna and her children find safety. 

“With four kids with special needs, it’s not always easy to identify the best things for my children and family. It was really helpful having someone who could work through tricky situations and chat through solutions together,” says Anna. 

Anna was able to report her partner’s abusive behaviour, relocate to a safer environment and regain her confidence. 

Our team also connected Anna’s children to professional counsellors to work through the family trauma – to Anna's delight, they were calmer and happier. 

One of my children was agitated and fidgety, but when the Mission Australia team organised equine therapy, I saw my son become calmer.

We  provided  Anna and her children the practical support they needed to overcome home violence and take on new opportunities. Anna feels more confident and equipped to protect her children than ever.
