When the community of Yarrabah went into lockdown, the young girls in the Dream Buyal Bandu Program were determined to stay united.
“Buyal Bandu means strong together,” explains Leisa Garling from Mission Australia. “Even in the lockdown, the girls are resilient, and they trust that we’re in this together.”
Although Leisa hasn’t been able to physically
meet with the girls in the program, she organised surprise deliveries of crayons, colouring activities and encouraging letters to stay connected during COVID-19.
