Family Preservation Service delivers voluntary targeted intervention services to families with at least one child or young person under the age of eighteen living at home who are facing problems that impact on their ability to care for their children. Family Preservation Service helps to build strong/ well-functioning families where children can live safe from abuse and neglect & have improved wellbeing outcomes.

Who we assist

The Family Preservation Service is for families under serious risk, who are expecting a child or have children up to and including 18 years of age (at least one child must be 18 years or younger or the family will not be eligible). Priority of access will be given to families with children less than 3 years of age. referrals are received from the Department of Communities and Justice and community referrals.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the Family Preservation Service, families must either have 1 child under 18 or be expecting a child. They must also be experiencing one of the following: Domestic Violence, Parental Mental Health, Parental Drug and Alcohol, Intellectual or Learning Disability, Lack of Parenting Skills and/or Inadequate Supervision.

Referral process

90% of referrals come from Family and Community Services and 10% of referrals come from community based organisations.
