Mission Australia’s Communities of Focus initiative is a place-based approach that aims to address local disadvantage by tackling problems in new ways, convenes local community to understand disadvantage and build up local leadership and decision making, builds skills, strengths and aspirations that exist within a community to build cohesion, collaboration, and motivation, works across funding and program boundaries to catalyze innovation and create positive change. Mission Australia works as the backbone to coordinate activity, develop a common vision, facilitate strategy, and build community capacity for up to 10 years so that Meekatharra is able to continue to sustain collective action independent of Mission Australia.
