Filled with gravel and stones, the garden at Mission Australia’s Drug and Alcohol Youth Services (DAYS), needed an upgrade.

Thanks to funds raised by members of the Property Council Australia in WA at last year's Women in Property Lunch, and the generosity of local businesses, the courtyard has been transformed into an open therapy garden overflowing with trees, plants and enough room for a small outdoor cinema.

Designed by landscape architects Peta-Maree Ashford, Yuhong Chang, Mike Missikos and Zac Fried, from Emerge Associates, the courtyard aims to act as a therapy garden and a safe space for young people and staff to meet. Once a design was decided, several local businesses donated their time and resources to plant new trees, repave the ground and transform the space into a functioning area.

We are thankful for the generous contributions, donated materials and the support of local businesses.

Everyone involved loves the new courtyard and the young people can’t wait to have their first outdoor movie night.

A huge thanks to our project contributors:

  • Property Council Australia for sponsoring Mission Australia
  • Emerge for designing the garden
  • LD Total for construction and donated labour
  • Rural Stone for paving supplies
  • Benara Nurseries for donated plants
  • Churchlands Lawn and Garden Maintenance for donated planting labour.

DAYS (Drug and Alcohol Youth Service) outreach program, funded by generous Mission Australia supporters, helps young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Young people receive free and confidential alcohol and other drug counselling and support to achieve their goals and thrive independently.

Thank you for helping young people access the support they need to thrive.
