Hope and celebration on Christmas Day in Perth
- Details
Christmas Day in Perth means connection, kindness and lots of smiles.
Our annual Christmas Lunch in the Park is Australia’s longest running and largest community funded event to provide vulnerable and marginalised people with connection to community and access to services.
In its 49th year, meals were shared with over 1,500 people in Perth thanks to over 300 volunteers, bringing hope, compassion and celebration on Christmas Day.
At the event, guests can enjoy access to services from Foodbank, Orange Sky, complimentary haircuts and styling from our partners, Shortback and Sidewalks. Guests who are struggling to make ends meet can also have a shower, receive clothes, or access support services and chaplaincy support.
Special care packs, including non-perishable food and personal care items, as well as Christmas presents for children were shared with guests.
For over a decade, Julie Katsimbardis, one of our volunteers has been welcoming guests to Christmas Lunch in the Park.
“The feeling of giving joy to some people and happiness is something that’s very rewarding.
“I don’t think any one of our volunteers actually ever regretted missing Christmas Day with the family because it’s like having Christmas with a huge family of more than 1000 people," says 78-year-old Julie.
“I plan to volunteer as long as I can give to people.”
