Navigating the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) was a daunting experience for 20-year-old Jahmarley, a proud Whadjuk Noongar man, who lives with autism.

Fortunately, with support from his Local Area Coordinator and Support Coordinator, Jahmarley has been able to maximise the NDIS to achieve his goals. As a Partner in the Community, Mission Australia has proudly provided NDIS support since 2019. Thanks to funding from the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), people like Jahmarley have the support they need to thrive.

“I was not used to getting help, and it took me a little while to adapt.” - Jahmarley

Setting and achieving life goals

After working with his support team, Jahmarley has made significant progress in his life. He has learnt strategies and life skills from his support network and applied them in his day-to-day life, environments, and situations. Jahmarley has used these skills to find work combining two of his passions – games and math – and now works in customer service at an entertainment precinct.

“I love the job as I get to help the people with the games such as mini golf or the arcade machines,” Jahmarley said. “I’ve also been able to test all the games myself.”

Having achieved his goal of finding work, Jahmarley has set his sights on getting his driver’s licence and moving toward independent living.

“I’m so thankful for the support I get from the NDIS, it gets me out of the house and helps me come out of my shell. It means a lot.”

“I can’t wait to get my licence and move into my own house.”

We are so proud of Jahmarley and his progress. Thanks for helping people like Jahmarley on their journey towards independence.
