Gold Coast StreetSLEEP, hosted by the Property Industry Foundation, is back for 2018 and they want you to join!

StreetSLEEP is a sleep out at the Pacific Fair Shopping Centre to raise much-needed funds for Mission Australia’s Reconnect program to cover the salary of Psychologist Ashlee O’Donohue.

Current participants of StreetSLEEP include a group of young property and construction industry professionals, along with staff and clients from Mission Australia.

Ashlee’s role is not funded by the government, but provides much-needed support to young people in the Reconnect program.

Reconnect is an early intervention service which works with young people on the Gold Coast and their families by providing case management, family mediation and practical support. Ashlee works closely with school guidance counsellors, who have welcomed her role and support for their students.

Last year’s StreetSLEEP successfully funded the position and we’re raising funds again this year to keep the role.

Since joining the program at the beginning of the year Ashlee has been inundated with referrals from schools for her three-day-a-week service.

“The addition of Ashlee to our Gold Coast service has provided much needed specialised therapeutic intervention,” said Reconnect Program Manager Darren Stockman. “This way, young people and their families can address the complex, inter-generational issues that are contributing to homelessness. Through the program, they can be put on a positive trajectory for their long-term future rather than receive a temporary solution.”
