About the Mission Australia Youth Survey
What’s it like growing up in Australia today?
The 2022 Mission Australia Youth Survey is now open.
The Mission Australia Youth Survey is Australia’s largest online youth survey, providing a platform for young people aged 15 to 19 to ‘speak up’ about the issues that really concern them.
Mission Australia’s CEO Sharon Callister urges young people across Australia to get involved the annual Youth Survey.
“We continue to prioritise creating space through our Youth Survey for young people to share their thoughts and concerns. The results are always very telling. They’re publicised far and wide and provided to government and non-government organisations to inform design and delivery of policies, initiatives and services that impact young people’s lives.
"We are delighted that over the past decade, more than 200,000 young people and more than 1,000 schools and organisations have participated in our Youth Survey.
“We encourage schools, sports teams, community youth groups, religious groups and community service organisations to support young people to get involved in the Youth Survey,” Sharon said.
Our young people are our future leaders and it’s essential we hear them and act on what they tell us.”
The survey closes on 12 August 2022, with results to be analysed and released before the end of the year.
Complimentary individual Youth Survey reports are available for schools and organisations where a minimum of 100 respondents complete the survey. If you would like to request an individual report, please contact us before commencing the survey to receive a unique code.
Highlights from the 2021 Youth Survey
In 2021, 20,207 young people participated in the 20th annual Youth Survey. This landmark report provides rich and compelling evidence collected during the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic about young people’s challenges, concerns, experiences and barriers to achieving their goals.
For the first time, COVID-19 was most important national issue according to young people, rising from second place in 2020 (38.8%) to the top spot in 2021 (45.7%). Survey responses revealed the pandemic and associated public health responses had a negative effect on young people’s health, wellbeing and education in 2021. Rounding out the top three most important national issues in 2021 were the environment (38.0%) and equity and discrimination (35.4%).
