Self-esteem is a crucial part of our mental health and well-being, shaping the way we see ourselves and experience the world around us. Maintaining a healthy self-esteem can be challenging at certain stages of our life. Whether you’re preparing for a job interview, first date, or managing a difficult relationship, our self-esteem can fluctuate depending on our life circumstances. As we face challenges, here are three prayers and tips to boost your self-esteem.

But first, what is self-esteem and why is it important?

Self-esteem affects how we feel about ourselves. It's the opinion we have of ourselves, and how much we value ourselves as a person. Having healthy self-esteem means we are content in our God-given gifts and abilities.

Having a strong sense of self-esteem is important. When we feel confident about ourselves, it affects everything we do and those around us. We're more likely to take care of ourselves and others, chase after dreams, and set realistic goals.

Three prayers to help boost your self esteem

A little prayer can go a long way in boosting our confidence and sense of self-worth. Here are three prayers you can use to keep your identity and self-esteem grounded against the storms of comparison:

1. Prayer for inner strength

Dear God, I come to you seeking your strength and guidance. Help me to see the unique qualities and talents that you have given me to love others the way you love me.

When I feel weak and vulnerable, remind me that I am fearfully and wonderfully made in your image. When doubt and negative self-talk creep in, help me trust your good plans for me.

I pray for the strength  to overcome any obstacles in my path and the confidence to face each day with a positive mindset. Thank you for always working for the good of those who love you.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him."

 Psalm 28:7

2. Prayer for self-acceptance

Loving God, I come to you seeking acceptance and love. Help me to see myself as you see me, as your beautiful and unique creation worthy of love and respect.

When I compare myself to others and feel inadequate, remind me that my identity isn’t caught up in theirs – that you see me as I really am. When I struggle with self-doubt and insecurities, by your Spirit fill me with your grace, compassion and hope.

Give me the courage to embrace my strengths and weaknesses, knowing that I’m a work in progress. Help me trust you to grow and change me to be more like Jesus. Thank you for your unwavering love and support, even in my moments of self-doubt.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

 – Romans 15:13

3. Prayer for confidence

Heavenly Father, I come to you seeking confidence and assurance to persevere. Help me to chase goals and dreams that are in line with your will.

When I am plagued by self-doubt and fear of failure, remind me that all things are possible with you. When I struggle with negative self-talk and limiting beliefs, fill me with your strength and resilience.

Through your Spirit, remind me that your ways are higher than my ways. Give me the confidence to fully trust in you. Guide me along the straight path and do not let my foot slip. Thank you, Jesus, for your constant support and encouragement, even in my moments of uncertainty.

Amen.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

–  Proverbs 3:5-6
