WELCOME
Responding to lockdown and other COVID-related measures was a demanding task for our teams in Victoria during the past financial year. Our teams transitioned between remote work and face-to-face services as required, implemented COVID-safe plans and supported vulnerable people impacted by the pandemic.
During the year we assisted 9,088 people through 30 services in Victoria that helped children, young people, families and communities to thrive.
In Victoria, our Disability Employment Services, Transition to Work and ParentsNext programs supported early school leavers, the long-term unemployed, parents and people with disability to gain confidence, learn skills, resume study and secure new job opportunities.
After a thorough review and concerted effort to secure government funding, we made the decision to close Synergy, an automotive workshop providing training for young people involved in car theft. While the program had positive outcomes, it could not be sustained without funding.
We also made the difficult decision to close the iconic Charcoal Lane restaurant from September 2021. However, we are very pleased that the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service will take over the space for the delivery of much needed health services to the community.
We had an active advocacy role in Victoria this past financial year, including the Inquiry into Homelessness and using data from our Youth Survey to advocate for services and policies that improve outcomes for young people.
In the year ahead, we are excited to continue planning ways to grow our impact in Victoria, building on our strong relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and increasing our capabilities within Victoria and across the nation.
Warm regards,
Nada Nasser
