WELCOME

Together, we assisted 57,405 people in NSW & ACT through 262 services that enable children, young people, families and communities to escape homelessness and thrive.

In the past financial year, we partnered with many organisations to advocate for people in need and deliver services. For example, we partnered with Yilabara Solutions to build capacity of our teams to increase Indigenous employment and partnered with community housing providers to deliver Together Home.

Aged care was one of our key priorities. We finalised our Aged Care Strategy to drive the impact in our services. We secured additional funding from the Aged Care Allocation Round to refurbish Charles Chambers Court in Sydney, implemented a new electronic clinical care system and strengthened clinical governance. Most importantly, we implemented robust COVID safety measures to keep our residents and staff safe. This included a COVID vaccination program for our staff that achieved a 100% vaccination rate (by September 2021).

We were proud to implement new services such as Together Home, Gamble Aware, Wayback Support Service and bushfire recovery programs. Following on from the Innovative Connections Program, we also opened a Safe Haven Café in Broken Hill to provide people experiencing suicidal distress with a supportive environment.

We were also pleased to receive funding extensions for our Specialist Homelessness Services and Family Preservation services, allowing us to continue supporting families and children at risk of homelessness.

In the year ahead, we plan to continue measuring and increasing our impact through our existing and new services. Thank you for all your support this year and I hope you’ll continue to support Mission Australia in the new financial year as we look forward to opening our new Alcohol and Other Drugs facility for young people in Bateman’s Bay and the new Mission Australia Centre in Coffs Harbour.

Warm regards,

20-25 Strategy

In 2020, we launched Mission Australia’s 20-25 Strategy with a vision for an Australia where all of us have a safe home and can thrive. In the past year, we are proud of our progress in our four strategic areas of focus. From the construction of a new Mission Australia Centre in Coffs Harbour to expanding our Alcohol and Other Drugs Facilities in Cairns and Batemans Bay.

See our progress

Mission Australia stands together with Australians in need, until they can stand for themselves.

Thank you for making our work possible this year.

Driving excellence

Our Impact Measurement helps us understand how our services improve the lives of our clients and the communities we serve. We measure our impact by asking our clients questions about their wellbeing when they start a service and when they exit.

Funded by the Department of Communities and Justice (NSW), our Brighter Futures Program supports vulnerable families with young children and helps them build safe and strong family connections. Our impact measurement data shows that when families left the service, they were more satisfied with their life as a whole than at the start.

Research & advocacy

Mission Australia provided submissions to the Federal Government on a range of issues, including:

  • Audit Office of NSW: Responses to homelessness investigation
  • NSW Housing Strategy 2020
  • Inquiry into Child Protection and the Social Service System 2020
  • Inquiry into health outcomes and access to health and hospital services in rural, regional and remote NSW.

We furthered our collaboration with the community housing and homelessness sectors, advocating for more social and affordable housing and a national strategy to end homelessness as part of Everybody’s Home.

Mission Australia continued to advocate for adequate income support for people in need and to combat intergenerational poverty as part of the Raise the Rate for Good campaign.
