Annual report WA 2022
WELCOME
On behalf of the individuals, families and communities we work alongside, I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to our donors, funders, volunteers, partners organisations and staff across Western Australia (WA). Your prayers, commitment and unwavering generosity supports our efforts towards a shared vision of an Australia where everyone has a safe home and can thrive.
Whilst it was a challenging year with the COVID-19 pandemic impacting us all, the team persevered and remained steadfast in delivering services to vulnerable people in WA.
The team had many wonderful achievements over the past year including:
- Commencing of a Drug Education Support service to provide direct and immediate support to homeless young people to address alcohol and other drug (AOD) concerns as well as providing mental health support
- Achieving AOD and Human Services Standard accreditation at Drug and Alcohol Youth Service (DAYS) and SHIFT Youth AOD Outreach Service in Perth
- Delivering the 46th Christmas Lunch in the Park on Christmas Day with the support of 300 volunteers for some of Perth’s most vulnerable people, including those experiencing homelessness
- Supporting more than 9,660 people with disabilities to live their best life through the delivery of our NDIS Local Area Coordination service in Perth.
In addition to these highlights, I have included fantastic stories that I hope will inspire you and demonstrate how your support has resulted in positive impacts on individuals and the community.
We look forward to continuing to grow our impact and I’d like to invite you to journey with us again over the next 12 months.
I hope you enjoy reading the Annual Report.
Warm regards,
Together, we supported 17,107 Australians in WA on their journey towards independence last year.

An Australia where all of us can have a safe home and thrive
In 2020, we launched Mission Australia’s 20-25 Strategy with a vision for an Australia where all of us have a safe home and can thrive. In the past year, we are proud of our progress in our four strategic focus areas. From the opening of the Mission Australia Centre in Coffs Harbour to expanding our Alcohol and Other Drugs Facilities in Batemans Bay, read more about our progress here.
Our work in action
Ending homelessness
No child or young person should ever have to experience the detrimental effects of homelessness alone. Thanks to the team at Youth Accommodation Support Services, Belle has a safe home where her health and wellbeing are improving each day.
Strengthening communities
Young people like 15-year-old Moon, experienced homelessness for the first time during the pandemic. Thanks to our Drug and Alcohol Youth Service team, Moon had the support to find a permanent place to call home.
Supporting people in need to thrive
Navigating the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) was a daunting experience for 20-year-old Jahmarley. Thanks to his support team, Jahmarley has been able to maximise the NDIS to learn new skills, secure a new job and achieve his life goals.
Serving people in need with Christmas Lunch in the Park
Mission Australia stands together with Australians in need, until they can stand for themselves.
Thank you for making our work possible this year.
Driving excellence
Our Impact Measurement helps us understand how our services improve the lives of the people we help and the communities we serve. We measure our impact by asking individuals questions about their wellbeing when they start a service and when they exit.
Funded by the Western Australia State Government, our Wattle House, Housing Support Program, Open Doors, THRIVE, Youth Accommodation Services and Reconnect services provide support to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to ensure they have long-term stable housing. Our impact measurement data shows that when people left our services, they were more satisfied with their personal well-being.

Research & advocacy
Mission Australia continued our policy and advocacy work to support people in need to thrive. We advocated to the Federal and State Governments on issues of importance to Mission Australia and the people we serve.
We made policy submissions on a range of topics including homelessness, social and affordable housing, and youth.
Across the state and nationally, we met with ministers and senior government representatives on policy priorities for people in need and furthered our community collaborations to advocate together on key issues.
